Comments
Sheffield Lab is well-known for their high quality releases that can be used for testing audio components. Technical information: This Sheffield Lab Compact Disc is manufactured from our live two-track reference tape recorded simultaneously with the original direct disc performance of this album. This Compact Disc offers a dramatic increase in transparency and phase linearity due to the exclusive use of our own custom electronics and microphones. Because this Compact Disc is manufactured from an original, live, two-track reference tape, many generations of signal degradation from multi-track recorders and dub-downs is completely eliminated. This Sheffield Lab Compact Disc has all the unique musical excitement and energy that can only be found in live, unedited performance recordings.

This CD contains two famous LP releases from Sheffield Lab for Audio Component Testing and Evaluation: The Track Record (1982) and The Drum Record (1980). James played keyboards on the Track Record and also wrote the track "Amuseum". It's a different and older version than the version of Amuseum that was later released on the James Newton Howard & Friends CD. A better sound quality version of this Track & Drum Record CD was later also released on the XRCD The Sheffield Drum & Track Disc (2004).
